I thought I’d try out a new weekly roundup of great links — recipes to try or stories to enjoy over your weekend coffee!
This week was so busy that I didn’t have any time to develop a new recipe (sorry about that!). I’m having a small group of girlfriends over tomorrow for brunch, so I’ve been busy planning my menu and doing prep work so that I can hopefully spend more time enjoying my friends’ company and less time stressing about the food. I’m in pretty good shape so far, so here’s hoping that I’m able to pull it off without a hitch! Have a great weekend.
The Kitchn ran a funny series this week of The Most Under-Appreciated Recipes of the 1960s-90s. Check out what food writers had to say about their picks for the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s.
Here’s an interesting conversation with the proprietors of Big Gay Ice Cream and Murray’s Cheese (both in NYC) about the challenges of being a small food business.
I picked up the new street food issue of Lucky Peach magazine this week (it’s a fun one!). The Lucky Peach Tumblr posted this letter from a first grader who was outraged that an editor called New York hot dogs “gross” and it made me laugh.
I’ve probably mentioned this before, but I live with a carrot-hater. I’m flagging this Coconut Carrot Soup with Leeks from Bon Appetit for a night that I’m dining solo. And given the fact that it’s 10 degrees in NYC today, I think soup season is far from over!
Finally, Cherry Bombe magazine announced their first Jubilee conference, a one-day event in NYC on March 30th celebrating women and food. I’ve already bought my ticket — get yours!
